Los Angeles Department of Public Works Host 3rd Career Fair in CD 15

Have you ever wanted to work for the City of Los Angeles? Are you interested in serving your community? If so, come join us on June 29, 2023, for a career fair hosted by the Department of Public Works. If you are interested in the various career opportunities with the City of Los Angeles, this is the perfect networking event for you. The Department of Public Works is looking to fill as many vacancies as possible. 

Come prepared for on-site interviews, potential examinations, career workshops, and more. The event is filled with insightful information, from how to apply online to tips on how to write a cover letter. On some occasions, you may have seen a job post on a career website but felt intimidated by the numerous requirements or wondered if the hiring manager reviewed your application online. At this particular career fair, individuals will have the opportunity to speak with staff and ask questions about the position. 

When: Thursday, June 29, 2023 | 9 AM - 3 PM 

Where: East 103rd St. and Success Ave., Los Angeles 90002

(near Ted Watkins Park and the Children’s Institute)

Please arrive early to locate a parking space in the surrounding streets. 

Carpool and public transportation is encouraged. Career Fair will be held three blocks from the Metro Blue Line: 103rd St/Watts Towers Station.

9:30 AM | CIVIL SERVICE AND THE CITY’S HIRING PROCESS
City team members will explain what civil service means, what exams are like, and the City’s hiring process.

10:30 AM | TIPS FOR APPLICATIONS, RESUMES, AND COVER LETTERS
Guidance will be provided for using the right words in an interview and some simple tricks for showcasing your skills and experience in the best possible way on paper.

11:30 AM | INTERVIEWING 101
Preparing for an interview is easier than you think. Learn about best practices and simple guidelines for making a professional first impression.

12:30 PM | FINDING A JOB WITH THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES
Staff will explain common city terms, the salary ranges, and the application process.

1:30 PM | DRESS FOR SUCCESS
A suit isn’t always required for interviews. Sometimes business casual is acceptable for an interview. Staff will provide some helpful guidelines.
