Meet Shirley. Shirley is currently the Division Manager for the Bureau of Engineering’s Bridge Improvement Division. Shirley's career with the City of Los Angeles started in 1993, shortly after earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles. She also holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

In her 27 years with the City, Shirley has held positions in several divisions and departments. As head of the Bridge team, she leads the design and construction of nearly $300 million of bridge improvement projects, including the retrofitting, widening, or replacing of existing vehicular bridges. In recent years Shirley has also worked on multimodal bridges, such as the recently completed North Atwater Bridge for horses, pedestrians and cyclists and the Red Car Pedestrian Bridge.

Shirley also leads Engineering's Mentorship Program, which was established to promote and accelerate the learning, growth and development of the bureau’s employees. Shirley is a leader in the City for her knowledge and expertise, and her work with young associates allows her to share that with new employees.
